This month is National Bed Month so I've collaborated with well loved sleep and relaxation brand Feather and Down to bring you some tips to help you sleep, or at the very least maybe give you some ideas on how to improve your sleep hygiene. Apparently nearly 90% of people still say they feel tired when they wake up in the morning. This doesn't actually surprise me considering we live in a world where it's becoming increasingly difficult to switch off!
I wrote a post back in September reviewing some of Feather and Down's products but this time I decided I would write my tips for sleeping well. I actually suffer with insomnia but it's not as bad as it used to be so hopefully I can share some of my knowledge with anyone else with struggles to sleep. Firstly, if you've not heard of Feather and Down then they are a UK based company who specialise in creating indulgent bath, body and home fragrance products that encourage a good nights sleep. There specially formulated sleep fragrance contains lavender and chamomile oils, which are essential for a good nights sleep.
Tip 1 - Have a relaxing bath before bed! Light a nice candle, grab a book (no phones or iPads) and a bath bomb or bubble bath. I really like a mixture of both the Feather & Down Bath Essence and Sleep Salts. The salts leave your skin feeling super soft too!
Tip 2 - A nice warm drink before you go to sleep is the way to go. If you aren't a fan of warm milk then a nice cup of mint or lavender tea is also soothing. You could even drink it in the bath, kill two birds with one stone.
Tip 3 - No blue light's an hour before bed. I wont lie, this is a tough one and even I don't always follow my own advice. I am a person who gets lost in endless scrolling and sometimes find myself sitting in bed doing it for hours before realising! My tip for this is, leave it in a different room and then you can't be tempted to reach for it.
Tip 4 - Spray your room and pillow with Lavender spray, this makes your room not only smell amazing but should also calm the body and lower your heart rate. I've used quite a few different brands and I think the Feather and Down Pillow Spray is probably the most comforting. It's also only £7, so very affordable.
Tip 5 - Limit naps to just 30 minutes daily. If I sleep for too long in the day then I wake up feeling worse than I did before. Set an alarm so you don't go into a deep sleep and you hopefully wake up feeling a little more refreshed.
Tip 6 - Take deep breaths to calm the parasympathetic system down before you go to sleep, I like to use the in for 5, out for 5 method but there's lots of different ones to try. Find the one that relaxes your body. You could also breathe in some of the Sleep Balm to relax you further.
Tip 7 - Make a list of things you need to do the next day. I LOVE lists and it can help organise your mind and stop you worrying about forgetting to do things. You can also make a list of things your worrying about too if something is on your mind.
Tip 8 - If your suffering with insomnia don't freak out that it will never end. When mine was at it's worst I got stuck in a cycle of dreading going to bed because I knew I wouldn't sleep and then not sleeping because I was worrying so much about it! I 100% thought that it would never end and I wouldn't sleep again but here I am. Sleeping ALOT better than I used too with occasional insomnia days when my health is at it's worst.
I hope some of these tips help you and I would love to hear yours! You can pick up Feather & Down products on their site or in Boots, they are quite often on 3 for 2 aswell. Currently they are 25% off which is the perfect time to try them out.
Until Next Time xo
