Or not as the case might be with our summer this year! That's ok though because we can fake it until the Indian summer begins in September. I've tried a lot of fake tans over the past 10 years, that range from £3.99 St Moriz to £20 Xen Tan. I was super excited when Skinny Tan wanted me to review their range of sunless tanners and accessorises, especially as I had a couple of days away at a spa coming up which meant it was the perfect opportunity to really test these bad boys out.
Firstly, how lovely is the packaging? I am a sucker for cute packaging so I will pick up a product based on how it looks if I'm honest and these are definitely eye catching. Also guess what, they are only bloody coconut scented aren't they! I should probably mention that they are a cruelty free brand and made with naturally derived tanning properties too. Apparently they are also the first self tanner that can actually tan, contour and reduce the visible appearance of cellulite which is how its gets it name, Skinny Tan. It uses an ingredient called Guarana which is found in a lot of cellulite and firming creams. To be fair though, your cellulite never looks as bad when your tanned does it? I think that's why I love having a tan so much.
I'm looking forward to trying the 7 day tanner in the autumn/winter for when I still want a bit of colour but it doesn't need to be as dark. It's meant to give you a lovely golden glow. If you follow my Instagram page I will update you there!
I tested these out like I said on a spa break so the process started a few days before. For 3 days I used the Exfoliating Prep Mitt, which by the way is the best one I have EVER used. Firstly, it stays on your hand unlike the glove versions because of the elasticated cuff and secondly it has two sides to it. The brown is for a more gentle exfoliation to remove all the dead skin and the bright orange side is rougher and removes old tan really easily from the body. Normally I have to spend a week trying to get patchy tan off but this takes it off in one session especially if you use it with the Pre -Tan Primer too!
The Mousse was the product I was most excited to try, I'm used to using a mousse and I know it generally goes on quite well and dries quickly. They do this in three shades including a ultimate dark which I must admit sounds pretty terrifying (if you decide to use it don't apply three layers like this wally!). There is also a 1 hour mousse too. The colour is pretty perfect for someone who is Casper white, lovely and bronzed but not intensely so. The Dual Sided Mitt though, now that's a game changer! I don't see how I can ever go back to using different branded mitts now, it feels like velvet and I am sure its the reason I had no streaks or horrible orange patches. You know how some mitts your hands still get stained brown? This didn't leak through at all, its a miracle (name that TV series!!).
I applied this tan 12 days ago and only today did I exfoliate it off. It had mostly washed off my hands and my ankles/knees were starting to look a little orange but the rest of me still looked pretty good. Normally by day 5 my skin would be dry and patchy as hell, so I'm seriously impressed. In that time I went in a swimming pool, hydrotherapy pool (super hot!), had 12 showers and 2 baths and still had a pretty decent looking tan. If that's not impressive, I don't know what is.
Skinny Tan is a little more on the pricey side compared to other tanners but I think its worth it, I will be purchasing more of the mousse when mine runs out for sure. It didn't do anything for my cellulite as far as I'm aware but that in my opinion was quite a bold claim, when I had the tan on though it definitely did look better so that's good enough for me. I will list the products and prices below - if you love fake tan as much as me, go check them out!
